Call to Artists in New York (United States)

DEADLINE:  DECEMBER 14, 2014 (Midnight Pacific Time)

The New York Center for Photographic Art (NYC4PA) invites photographers world-wide to submit images using any photographic process (print, image transfer, emulsion transfer, iphoneography, encaustic, black and white, etc.). Winners will receive $3,000 in cash awards and be featured in a New York Gallery Show and on the NYC4PA Online Gallery. The Grand Prize winning image will be posted on the NYC4PA home page.

We are very excited that Winners and Juror’s Selections will have the opportunity to participate in a gallery show in April 2015, at the New Century Artists Gallery in Manhattan’s Chelsea gallery district. In addition, an exhibition catalog of the group show will be available.

Wikipedia defines portrait photography as “photography of a person or group of people that displays the expression, personality, and mood of the subject. Like other types of portraiture, the focus of the photograph is usually the … face, although the entire body and the background or context may be included.”

For this call NYC4PA is expanding the range of subjects to include the animal kingdom so if the portrait is a clear representation of excitement, sadness, adoration, etc. it fits the theme.

Send us your images that truly express emotion and personality, human or animal.

Grand Prize:
One photographer will receive $750.  The image will be part of the New York gallery show, the NYC4PA Online Gallery and the exhibition catalog. It will be featured on the home page of NYC4PA website.

·       First Prizes: 3 photographers will each receive $300. Their images will be exhibited in the New York Gallery show, the NYC4PA Online Gallery and in the exhibition catalog.

·       Second Prizes: 3 photographers will each receive $250. Their images will be exhibited in the New York Gallery show, the NYC4PA Online Gallery and in the exhibition catalog.

JUROR: Ellen Denuto

Ellen Denuto has been creating photographic images since she was a child.  She found her voice with the camera and won Best in Show when her mother entered an image of hers in a major juried contest.

Early in her career, Ellen formed professional affiliations with the Minolta, Agfa and Ilford Corporations, as guest speaker and contributing photographer for their product publications and trade shows.

An original contributor for The Image Bank, founder Larry Freed selected a

body of her personal images to be part of his International Collection.

An exhibition at The Lever House Gallery in NYC, reviewed by Fred McDarrah (Village Voice), named Ellen “A brilliant punk fashion photographer to watch”.

As a result the NYC Art Directors gave Ellen assignments for FOTO, Darkroom Photography, GRAPHIS, Minolta Mirror, Japanese Playboy and others. Her photograph “Nick and Gigi” became the face of the new generation of photographers on the poster AMERICAN VISION for NYU’s Washington Square Gallery exhibition of the same name.

Ms. Denuto is a juror, guest speaker and workshop leader for ASMP, PWP

PPA, SOHO Photo, and various Colleges and Universities. She is also VP of ASMP in her home state of NJ.

She is currently instructing in classes that include  “The Digital Portfolio Project” for New York University, and “The Classic Nude” for The Hallmark Institute of Photography.

All entrants to NYC4PA Open Calls for Entry, by virtue of their submission, are attesting that the images submitted are their own work and there has been no copyright infringement.  NYC4PA will not be held liable for any infringement of rights that might surface during the jurying or displaying of any image.

By submitting you grant NYC4PA the right to use your image(s) for promotion and advertisement of NYC4PA as well as inclusion in the NYC4PA catalog if the image is prize winning, juror selection or honorable mention.

Images selected by jurors for Prizes, Juror's Selection or Honorable Mention in a previous NYC4PA international call for entry are not eligible. Images previously submitted but not selected may be resubmitted as often as you wish.

Should your award notification or prize be returned as undeliverable, NYC4PA will not resend the notice (whether by the same or another method,) research your address nor make any further attempts at delivery, and your submission will be deemed ineligible. Please be careful when entering all your contact information.

NYC4PA would prefer to remit cash awards through a PayPal transfer. If you do not have a PayPal account to which we can remit your award, please contact us for alternate arrangements.

As a submitter NYC4PA will include you in future mailings and announcements. If you would prefer NOT to be on our mailing list please log onto http://www.nyc4pa.com/#!contact and ask to be removed.

Our entry software has an address field for the state you live in.  This applies to the US and several other countries - if you do not have “state” as part of your address simply leave that field blank - it is not mandatory.

If you have questions or issues please contact us as [Hidden].  We will make every effort to get back to you as soon as possible.  We will specifically be available via email, until 11:00PM EST on the last evening of the call.
